Introduction
Muttom Pranavapureeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Muttom village, Kattumannarkoil circle, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. This village is the southern border of Cuddalore district, a village on the northern bank of Kollidam. The Kollidam River turns northward into the Uttravakini; hence the name Muttom as it is the northernmost part of the river. As the Shiva temple here was in ruins, the people of this village had installed the lingam, sandesar, god, altar, and small lingam bhairavar, Vinayagar etc. in the outer hall of the Ayyanar temple. Now a beautiful west facing temple has been built for this Lord.
The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. The Presiding deity is called as Lord Pranavapureeswarar and Mother is called as Piranavambikai and has a three-tiered gopuram at the front with a wall on all four sides. The Lord is towards the West and the Goddess is towards the South. In the south-west corner is Nirthivinayakar, next to Kasi Viswanatharvara, and in the north-west side of Amman, there is Vallitheiyani Samedha Muruga and Mahalakshmi. Behind the sanctum sanctorum is a large neem tree. Under it is vinayak. In the north-east are the Navagrahas and Bhairava, the moon and the sun.
