Introduction

Mudikandanallur Bhoominathar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, located in the Mudikandanallur village, Srimushnam circle, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. This temple has many special features that other Shiva temples do not have. He resides in very few temples under the name of Bhoomi Nath. Agathiya Mamunivar has mentioned in his book that Bhoominatha Swami is the one who removes 16 types of doshas and bestows good health. But this is very special temple not known for its glory and is not visited by people.

Puranic Significance

During the reign of King Parantaka I, villages were functioning with the Kattumannarkoil called Veeranarayanapuram as their headquarters, and Mudikandanallur was one of them. “Rajaraja Chola I was one of the famous kings of the Cholas. His reign was admirably known as the Golden Age of the Chola dynasty. Although many towns are called Mudikandanallur and Mudikonda, it is said that Rajaraja Cholan was first named Mudikonda in this town.

The Temple is believed to be more than 1500 years old. This temple is a small temple; the lord faces west and the Goddess faces south. Nandi are seated in front of both the Lord and the Goddess. Ganesha and Murugan are seated at the gate of Bhoominathar’s shrine. Durgai and Tenmukhan are among the sanctum sanctorum. In the north-east is the Navagraha shrine. Sandesar is in the regular section.

Beliefs

Before buying land or if there is any obstruction in the construction work, one should take soil from the north-east corner of the land, wrap it in a yellow cloth, place it in the puja room and worship. Then, on the day of Vastu, if you place the clay here and worship Sri Bhoominath, the problems will be removed and the construction work will be done without any delay.

Special Features

First specialty – It is a west facing Shiva temple. If you visit Shiva facing west, you will get the blessings of a thousand east facing Shiva.

Second specialty – Bhoominathar worshiped by Goddess Bhooma devi.
