Introduction               

Maraneri Pasupadeeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Maraneri village, Budalur circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. Adjacent to the Venna River is this Shiva temple is located towards the east side of the village. Here the Presiding deity is called as Pasupadeeswarar and Mother is called as Sivakamasundari.

Puranic Significance 

 The High walls built of irregular stone on all four sides, with no raja gopuram on the facade, only an entrance gate with beautiful sculptures on there. This temple was later consecrated on February 6, 2009 and the work has been going on for many years. This temple is considered to be one of the rare temples built during the Pallavar period.The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old.

Here the Lord – Pasupadeeswarar and Mother Sivakamasundari are towards the East side sanctum, Nandi is positioned in such a way that she does not look directly at Shiva, but turns her head slightly to look at Amman. It is said that by worshiping the Pashupatiswara in this temple, the number of people will increase and marriage barriers will be removed. There are 2 durga idols in the temple premises. One of these is the Pallavar period durga and another statue belongs to the 2nd century.

The temple is under the control of the Hindu Charities Department. Due to the maintenance work going on in this temple, all the idols are kept in the shed near the temple and daily pujas are going on.
