Puranic Significance
The Laxmi Narayan Temple in Lakkundi, dating back to the 11th century AD, is one of the surviving monuments among the 101 temples that were built in the area during that period. Lakkundi was known for its significant contributions to temple architecture, Vidyadana (charity-supported schools), and public works such as step wells during the 11th to 13th centuries.
This particular temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, specifically in his form as Laxmi Narayan. However, it’s important to note that no pooja (worship rituals) are currently conducted in this temple. Despite its small size, it is an important historical and architectural site that provides insights into the rich temple-building tradition of the region during that era.
