Introduction
Keluvathur Jadayupureeswarar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, located in the Keluvathur village, Mannargudi circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Keluvathur is 15 kilometers away from Mannargudi on the way to Perugavazhndan. Here the Presiding deity is called as Jadayupureeswarar and Mother is called as Soundaranayaki.
Puranic Significance
The inscription researcher says about this temple. This is a stone temple built by the Chola kings in the 11th century: The name of this town is found in the inscription of Raja Raja Chola. It has been a years since the temple was built. The completely dilapidated temple has been renovated.
The elaborate Stone nandimandapam is here in the temple. Jatayu sculptures here in the human form of Narthana vinayakar with the mace-carrying ruler Nandi and his concubines with wings are outstanding. Dakshinamurthy resides in the south of the sanctum sanctorum. Dakshinamurthy sits on a royal throne engraved with the symbols of the 12 zodiac signs.
