Introduction
Keela othiyathur Vedapureeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Keela Othiyathur village, Kilvelur circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Vedapureeswarar and Mother is called as Vedanayaki. It was called Othiyathur because it is the city where God who recited all the four Vedas and is the father of all life in the world. Before going to destroy Suran, Goddess Parvati gave him a weapon called Vel. Goddess Parvati told him to worship him in nine places before receiving that fence, so Lord Muruga installed nine Shivalingams in the nine places around the town of Thanga, after worshiping Goddess Parvathi, he took the weapon and destroyed the sun. These are called Navakadamba sthalams. This place with so many features has been badly damaged and now a new temple has been built. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
