Introduction

Parshwanath jain Basadi is located in the Kabaturu Village, Sorab Taluk, Shimoga district, Karnataka state, India. This Jain Temple (Basadi) was built in 1017 AD by Kadamba Queen Malala devi wife of Kirti deva. Sadly, it has lost the attention of Jain community. It is protected monument by ASI. The Basadi is completely ruins only brick compound remains. Kubaturu was ruled by the kadambas of Banavasi 3th-6th century AD. The parshwanath jain basadi was constructed in AD1017, has a garbhagriha with a long pillared mandapa in the east. Constructed in laterite blocks, The garbhagriha as seated image of Parshwnath of 1.52mts height crowned by several – hooded snake canopy and is flanked by chauri-bearers. The exterior walls are in plain. There are few Jaina inscriptions in the premises referring the vow of Sallekhana of some Jaina ascentics.
