Introduction
Gurha Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Gurha village is located in Orai tehsil of Jalaun district in Uttar Pradesh, India. Presiding deity is called as Mahadev (Lord Shiva). The Temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old. This temple is protected as monuments of national importance by the central Archaeological Survey of India. The Temple is located at about 20km away from Orai.
Puranic Significance
The Temple originally consisted of sanctum, Maha mandapa and entrance porch. The temple is in dilapidated state. The doorway of the sanctum is intricately carved with miniature figures and incarnations of Lord Shiva. The sanctum enshrines an idol of lord Shiva in the form of lingam. The idol and sculptures were broken. Sculptures of gods and goddess of pantheon and architectural fragments can be seen in the temple premises.
