Introduction

The Devur Deva Durgai Amman Temple, located in Devur village, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to Durgai Amman, the presiding deity. The temple features Durgai Amman in a serene standing posture in a separate shrine facing east. Known for fulfilling devotees’ wishes quickly, the temple attracts worshippers seeking blessings for various life challenges. Devur is situated about 5 km from Kilvellur, a central hub on the Nagapattinam–Tiruvarur route.

This temple, believed to be 1000 years old, has unique architectural and spiritual features:

Durgai Amman: Depicted in a tranquil standing posture, symbolizing grace and protection.
Sanctum: Flanked by Raghavendra on the right and Maha Avatar Babaji on the left.
18 Siddhars: Representing enlightened sages, they are arranged in a straight line in the north prakaram.
Other Deities:
- Vetri Vinayagar Balamurugan is enshrined in the left corner of the prakaram.
- Bala Anjaneya resides on the right side of the prakaram.
- Outside the prakaram, the Navagraha Nayaks are worshipped.

Rahu Period Pujas:
- Conducted on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, as Durgai Amman is considered the deity of Rahu.
- Devotees light 9 lemon lamps and worship for 9 weeks to resolve obstacles in marriage and to be blessed with a child, particularly a son.
Bhairava Pujas:
- Special pujas to Bhairava on Ashtami days are believed to mitigate the effects of Shani doshas such as Kanda Shani, Pada Shani, Ejarai Shani, and Ashtama Shani.
Nikumbala Yagna:
- Conducted on new moon days, this ritual helps those suffering from mental unrest caused by witchcraft or negative energies.
