Introduction

Thirumeynapureeswarar temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, located at Vairavanpatti in Sivaganga district, Tamilnadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Thirumeynapureeswarar, Lingath is blessing towards east. And Mother is called as Bagam Piriyal. The special idol is Bhairava facing the south. Although Thirumeynapureeswarar is the source in this temple, Bhairava is the main idol.

Puranic Significance 

The period when the Kaapalik Shaivism flourished and gained prominence through the Ashtabhairava temples is noteworthy. The temples include Vairavanpatti Yoga Bhairavar Temple, Vairavanpatti Valaroli Nathar Temple, Ozhukku Mangalam Bhairavar Temple, and Peruchikkovil AanandaPillai Nayanar Temple. Also, in Alagapuri Arulmigu Alagu Muneeswarar Temple, Lord Bhairavar is worshipped. Initially, during the reign of Rajaraja Chola I, this tradition was established under the patronage of the royal family. They bestowed royal favours upon the Anthanars who spread the scripture Prapakarana. Scholars such as Maaran Varman Kulasekara Pandian, Sundara Pandian, Vijaya Nagar Kings, Pujapaladevan, Achutha Deva Raya, Madurai Viswanatha Nayakar, Tanjore Raghunatha Nayakar, and others have been recognized for their contributions to education and governance within this educational framework.

Special Features

The Temple is believed to be 1500 years old. Swami, the deity here, blesses towards the east. Salakaram, Periya Praharam Nandi Mandapam, Inner Praharam, Mahamandapam, Ardhamandapam Karuvara Kattali are located. The special idol is Bhairava facing the south. It is the best Shiva temple and provides all the benefits to the devotees.
