Introduction
Chithraiyur Kasi Vishwanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Chithraiyur village, Mannarkudi circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Kasi Vishwanathar and Mother is called as Kasi Visalakshi. Chithraiyur village is located on the right bank of the Pandavai River. Here is the Shiva temple on the western bank of a large pond. The temple is small and the idols may have been brought from Kashi. The Lord has a small lingamurthy in the east-facing sanctum and at the gate of his sanctum sanctorum are Vinayagar Valli and Murugan. Karurai Kottam has Tenmugan, Vishnu and Durga. Bhairava is on a floor in the northeast side of the temple. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
