Introduction
Chidambaram Rattinapureeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Chidambaram town, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. Thikku temples will be built around the main temples. Similarly, there were many Thikku temples around Thillai temple. One of the few temples that still exist today is this Rattinapuriswarar temple. Here the Presiding deity is called as Rattinapureeswarar. This Lord was worshiped by Balamurugan and hence there is a legend that the Lord’s name is Kumareswarar and the area is known as Mantaikarai. The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old.
The temple, which used to be a big temple, has been completely destroyed, but only the Lingamurthy from it remains under the tree today. A small mandapam like temple is built and nearby is Lord Ratnapureeswarar along with Ratna Ganesha and some Nagas. Similarly, temples and idols may decay, but the divine power present there does not perish. So the places where the idols were also suitable for worship.
