Introduction

The temple of Sri AzhaguSundaraVaradarajaPerumal is situated in Alapakkam, on the southern banks Palar River, which is located about 12 km from Chengelpattu in Tamil Nadu. This is a very ancient temple and is said to have been in existence for more than 600 years. According to the records, this temple was built during Sri NigamanthaMahaDesikar period (1268 – 1369 AD). This temple has unfortunately been neglected for many years. Due to a steady decrease, over the years, in the number of pilgrims visiting this holy shrine, funds have not been flowing in and it has become difficult to even perform the most basic pujas for the Lord.
