Introduction

Located in Patan tehsil of Satara district, Rudreshwar cave at a distance of 104km from the city. Rudreshwar is a cave temple located in the remote interiors of a huge rocky mountain having multiple waterfalls cascading down the hill. “This cave is believed to be from Buddhist era and one can see Buddhist cave structure inside the cave. The main Stupa has been destroyed but the cave has 24 pillars inside the cave surrounding the Shivlingam installed at the centre of the cave much later. The structure resembles to Buddhist caves in the Karad region and might belong to before 12th century period. Today, the cave has a Shivling inside it and is highly visited by the Lord Shiva devotees in the Shrawan month and on Mondays.”
