Introduction

The town is located on the banks of the Arasala river, about 3 km west of Thiruveezhimalai in the Kudavasal circle. There are still lingams in some places, today as a symbol of the Sapta Rishis performing Sivapooja at the Maruthuvakkudi. Two lingams are isolated in a thatched shed near a small Ganesha temple on the banks of the royal river. Manavalanallur is located on the south bank of the river and Maruthuvakkudi on the north bank of the river.
