Introduction

Kovilam Poondi is located 3 km northeast of Chidambaram. After crossing the carriageway at the entrance of Cuddalore Road Chidambaram, the Kovilampoondi road divides at a place called Pallipadai. Koovilam is one of the 99 flowers that the women played with. Boondi means garden, and as it was a Vilva forest, Koovilam was called Poondi and later Kovilam Poondi. Puranic Significance
