Introduction

Kadayam Karutheeswarar Temple is a Shiva temple located in Kadayam, Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity is called as Karutheeswaran and Mother is called as Azhagammai. And other deity is Sokkanathar, Meenakshi, Kurupagavan, Saneeswarar, Ganesha, Subramanian and Sapta Kanniyar is worshiped in separate shrines. 32 km on the Tirunelveli-Kadayam Highway. In the distance is Pappankulam. Get down here and drive about 1km. If you walk, you can reach the Karutheeswarar Temple. Today many places in the temple are now in ruins and waiting for restoration.

Puranic Significance

Rama came to the Trikuta hills to seek the blessings of Atri Maharishi-Anusuya Devi during his exile. Anusuya Devi, a master of blogging, came to their forest and adorned Sita with jewels. Then Rama proceeded to admire the scenery of the area. He forgot that evening had come and immersed himself in that environment. Eason, who appeared in the form of a linga, told Raman that it was time for Sandhyavandanam to worship him. Lord Karutheeswaran got the name because he realized this idea. It is said in the northern language that Siddhanathiswarar because he knew and uttered the will of Rama. The rock on which Rama’s feet are placed is worshiped at the Ramaswamy Temple in this town. Mother is called Alagammai in Tamil and Soundarya Nayaki in Northern languages because of her beautiful form.

People worship Lord for education and jobs. Devotees also pray to Mother for clearing marriage obstacles.

Special Features

The temple is said to have been built about 1500 years ago by the Pandya king Adityavarman. Puli thevar, the king of Nerkattum Seval, stayed on the Nerkattum rock in the area and worshiped Karutheeswaran and his Consort Alagammai.
