Introduction
Agneeswarar Temple is dedicated to God Shiva located at Cuddalore Village near Kalpakkam in Kanchipuram District of Tamilnadu. This is one of the ancient temples completely built with granites. It is located at a distance of 10 km from Kalpakkam, in Kanchipuram district. The presiding deity is called Agneeswarar and Mother is called as Chokkanayagi. The temple dates back to second century A.D. which is evident from an inscription on a Kuthuvilakku that states the lamp was donated by one Thiripura Ammal in 333 A.D. Lord Siva here is surrounded by Bhairavar, The Sun God, Ganesa and Arumugar. An exception in this temple is the absence of the shrine of nine planets. The temple is open once a day. The sacred tank is named as Brahmma Theertham. Renovation is on the cards and hence a transit temple is built nearby. But the shiva temple gopuram is complety ruins.
Festivals
Pradosham, Arudra Darshanam, Annabhishekam, Sivarathri, and Karthigai Deepam festivals are celebrated with pomp. Also, 10 days festival of Sri Manickavasagar is celebrated every year. The temple is open on special days.
