Introduction
Ilangali Amman Temple is located in West Mambalam in Chennai City in Tamilnadu. This Temple is also called as Nava Durga Devi Temple. The temple belongs to mid-20th century. The temple is on the Jothi Ramalingam Street of Ellaiamman Koil Street in West Mambalam.
Puranic Significance
This temple is facing north with a 3 tier Raja gopuram. Soolam, Palipeedam and Simha Vahanam are in the mandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Ilangali Amman. Amman seems to be old and in sitting posture. Nava Durga was installed on a 9-base pedestal with a sthambam and a stucco image of an elephant on the top. Perumal is in reclining posture on the south side entrance Arch. There are shrines for Aiyappan, Navagrahas, Anjaneyar and Vinayagar, Nagars under peepal / Bodhi tree in the Temple premises.
