Introduction
Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Nagai circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. This is a town situated one kilometre north of Nagapattinam. The temple was built during the Second Kulothunga Chola period. There is a large pond on the south side of the Lord Vishwanath temple. This is called Gangaikulam. It is a city that is proud of three things namely Tirtha, Murti and Thalam. When entering the front of the temple, the Lord is facing east and ambikai facing south. To the right and left of the gate are Surya, Chandra and Kalabhairava.
On the left side of the sanctum sanctorum is Vinayagar and on the right side is Valli-Theiyanai with Dakshinamurthy, Chandikesar and Sani bhagavan shrines in Murugan koshta. After 1947, Kumbha Abhishekam took place. Lord blesses the devotees by taking into account the crime of not carrying out all these years. Since it is called Gangaikulam, performing Neethar rituals here is similar to what is done in Kashi.
