Location and Overview:
- The Navaneetha Krishna Swamy Temple is located in Veerakeralampudur Village, in the Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu, India.
- The temple is situated between two rivers, Chittar River and Hanumanathi River, both of which merge in this village and form a major tributary to the Thamirabarani River. The village is about 22 km from Tenkasi, 48 km from Tirunelveli, and 130 km from Thiruvananthapuram.
- The temple is believed to be around 1000 years old and is considered the family deity of the Utrumalai Kings.
Puranic Significance:
- The presiding deity of the temple is Navaneetha Krishna Swamy, who is depicted holding a butter pot in both hands with a smiling face, facing east.
- Garuda is positioned facing the sanctum with folded hands, symbolizing devotion to Lord Vishnu.
- The Thala Vriksham (sacred tree) of the temple is the Amla Tree, and the temple’s Theertham (holy water) is Chithar.
- The Dwajasthambam (flagpole) of the temple is made of gold, symbolizing the divine presence.
- The Urchavar (processional deity) is Navaneetha Krishna along with Sridevi and Bhoodevi, and it is located in the mandapam in front of the sanctum.
- The Vimanam (tower) above the sanctum houses various deities:
- Navaneetha Krishna in the east
- Dhakshinamoorthy in the south
- Yoga Narasimha in the west
- Brahma in the north
- The Vimana is topped with a Bronze Kalasha, symbolizing divine blessings.
- The temple also has shrines dedicated to Dasavathara (Ten Avatars of Vishnu), Dhanavanthri (god of healing), Thumbikai Azhwar, Azhwars, Ramanujar, and Garudazhvar.
- Anjaneya (Hanuman) is placed on the northern pillar of the mandapam housing the Urchavar.
