There is a separate temple in the north-east of the town; Lord Vishwanath is in this small temple. Here the presiding deity is called as Viswanath and Mother is called as Vishalakshi. There are sanctuaries of Vinayaka, Subramaniya, Navagraha, Bhairava, Surya and Shani Lords in the temple. The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old.
Puranic Significance
In order to destroy Jalandasura under Thiruverkudi, Lord Shiva disguised himself as Anthana and stood in front of the monster and made a wheel-shaped circle on the ground with his feet. Jalandasura asks if he can carry this chakra and place it on your head, which splits him in two, but Brindhai’s chastity keeps him alive. At this time Tirumal disguised as Jalandharasuran and his wife goes home. She invited them into the house saying that her husband had come. For a moment her mind was clouded. At the same time the monster takes the wheel and puts it on his head and the wheel cuts his neck. When Tirumal was moved with love by the milk of Brindhai and all the five forces in his hands fell together on the thik, the place where the bow fell was called Virkudi and the place where the sword fell was called Vazhkudi.
