Introduction

Vadagudi Poovananathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Vadagudi village, Kumbakonam circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. 7 km to the south of Kumbakonam is the village of Vadagudi. This Shiva temple is located at the end of a small village, existing Single Street. The deity who was in a shed for many years now has a small temple. Here the Lord is called as Poovanathar and Mother is called as Alagiya nayaki. Lord is facing towards east side and Mother is facing towards south side. Lord is a huge lingamurthy, Ambikai is newly created. A bull (Nandi) is seated towards the sanctum. At the gate of the sanctum sanctorum is the Ganesha. Tenmugan as the deity of Karurai Koshta is located in the north-eastern part of the ancient Bhairavar idol on a large scale. The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old.
