Introduction

Tulakattam Kashiviswanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Tulakattam village, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. The temple is located in the Bank of River; this is a small three-tiered Rajagopuram Kashi Viswanath Temple, which was recently completed. The temple complex is spread over an area of one acre. Here the Presiding deity is called as Kashiviswanathar and Mother is called as Sri Kasi Visalakshi.

Puranic Significance

This is a temple built in memory of the return of Adheenam Kasi. A temple built according to the rules of Arthamandapam Mughamandapam Nandikodimaram. Lord Kashi Vishwanath is towards the East and Kashi Vishalatsi is towards the South. In front of the Lord there is a tall flagpole and Nandi altar. This temple is made of stonework and brickwork. In the Karuvaraikotams there are Ganesha, Lingothavar, Brahman and Durgai. On the West Tirumalapathi there are Siddhivinayak and Murugan, the next shrine is Saptamatha and on either side of them are Vinayaka and Veerabhatra. There are four Gnanasaraswati. These were newly built sanctum during the recent temple renovation and there are small idols of Gnaneswar and Gnaneswari. Next to the sanctum sanctorum is Mahakalakshmi. Bhairava and Navagrahas are in North-East side. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
