Puranic Significance
This is the new temple built after the destruction of the old temple. The old Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. Here the Lord Soundareshwarar in the west side of the Sanctum and Soundaryanayaki in the south side have a copper roof that connects the two sanctums and Nandi is in front of the lord.
The temples have Vinayagar and Murugan with his consort. Dakshnamurthy is the only one in Karurai. His sculptural beauty seems to have been created during the Chola period. There is a pond directly behind the temple. There is also a Mariamman temple towards the north in the same compound.
