Introduction
Thiruchitrambalam Seethala Mariamman Temple is an Amman Temple, Located in the Thiruchitrambalam, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Seethala Mariamman. By taking the Sirkazhi – Koothiyapet city bus, you can reach Thiruchitrambalam Temple.
Puranic Significance
People used to do agriculture in a part of this village which was full of Mahua Trees. Once there were no temples here. Due to this, the people of the village expressed regret that there is no temple, so the village people decided to build a Mariamman temple in the village and a small temple was built in a shed. An idol of Amman was designed and named Seethala Mariamman and consecrated in the temple. Later the temple was shifted to a stone building.The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
Beliefs
Those who are affected by any part of the body, get Amman Abhishek Theertha, drink some of it, sprinkle it on the affected area and pray by chanting Om Shakti Parasakthi 108 times. It is said that by doing this, health problems will disappear. It is believed that people suffering from diseases will get cured soon if they visit this temple and pray. Marriage ban will be removed. The child will be blessed. Debt problem will go away. Property-related problems are solved by anointing and praying to Ambal. People who pray to the goddess attend this event in this temple as a sign of gratitude for the fulfilment of their requests.
Special Features
Mariamman is seated in Annavaganam and Ganesha Murugan is seen on both sides. If you bow down to them and go inside, you will see the great hall, the altar, the artha hall followed by the mother sitting in the sanctum sanctorum with four hands facing east.
On the first day of Chitrai (April – May), the birth of the Tamil year, Mariamman is specially anointed and panchangam is read. It is believed that listening to the panchangam will do all the good for the whole year. The people of the village should be healthy for themselves and their families and for the welfare of the village and the welfare of the world.
Festivals
On the 10th day of the month of Adi (July – August), Vedhiula is held with special abhishekam to the Goddess both in the morning and evening. On the Friday of the month of Tai (January), a special abhishekam and decoration of the goddess is performed during the night Thiruveedi Ula.
