Introduction

Thimmarajapuram Tiriyambakeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Thimmarajapuram village, Kudavasal circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Thimmarajapuram can be reached by walking 5 km north of Perumpannaiur bus stop on the Kumbakonam – Thiruvarur highway and 2 km south of the Kudamurti branch river. Here the Lord is called as Tiriyambakeswarar in the form of Lingam.

Puranic Significance

In Tamil Nadu there is a place called ‘Thiryambagapuram’. With such diverse features, it was in a position to be searched for decades ago. Balasastha Temple, the family deity of Sengalipuram Brahma Sri Anandaram Deekshidar and his relatives, is situated in the middle of the fields in Thiryambagapuram. When T.S. Krishna and his friends went to search for this as a sin, Lord Shiva found Shivalinga Thirumani with a square statue on a small hill in the middle of the field. He came to a final conclusion that Arunagirinath had the song Tiriyambakheswarar. On 29-1-2012 Vinayaka Puja, Bhumi Puja was performed and on 25-3-2015 Kumbabhishekam was performed.

Special Features

The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. The temple is built simply and beautifully towards the east and the entrance to the temple is on the south side. Outside the front hall of this temple there is a square lingam. The lingam in the sanctum sanctorum is also a square-shaped lingam, and is known as Tiriyambakeswarar. Opposite are a beautiful Nandi and an altar. Vinayagar and Murugan are at the gate of his sanctum. To the south is Ambikai Saubhagya gauri nearby there is an inscription of Arunagirinath song, a story of the leader, and a statue of Arunagirinatha facing the Lord. The banana trees are flourishing in the prakarams.
