Introduction
Thimmakudi Kashiviswanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Thimmakudi village, Kumbakonam circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. From Kumbakonam on the road to Swamimalai, Thimmakudi is about one kilometre after crossing the Thanjavur Expressway.This Shiva temple is located on the main road. Here the Presiding deity is called as Kashi Viswanathan and Mother is called as Kashi Vishalakshi.
Puranic Significance
This Shiva Temple is believed to be more than 1500 years old. And there is a large pond on the north side of the temple, surrounded by a wall, and there is a Nandavanam with bananas, basil and many colourful flowers. This Shiva temple is to the west, south of the main gate as the street goes south, is an ancient Nandi south gate. In the sanctum to the west is the Lord, with the great Ganesha on one side and Murugan on the other. Opposite is old Nandi and on one side Nagar is clinging to the wall.
In the Prakaram are Navagrahas and Sandesar sanctums in the north-east. Karurai Kothams have Durga, Lingothpavar Dakshnamurthy. The temple work has been completed with new idols along with some of the dilapidated old Cholas temple idols.
