Introduction

Thethiyur Sundareswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Thethiyur village, Kudavasal circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. 15 kms on the road from Nachiyar temple to Tiruveezhimila is Thethiyur village.There are three Shiva temples in this town. The temple is located on the main road behind Thethiyur bus stop. Located on the banks of Arisol River, “Lokasundari Sametha Sundareswarar” temple got its name as riverside temple because of its location on the banks of the river.The temple remains locked except during puja hours.

Puranic Significance

The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. To return to visit the Thirukalyana Vaibhava in Madurai, the Brahmins living in Thethiyur accepted the request of the Brahmins to chant Vedakosha in memory of Meenakshi Sundareswar and Maha Vishnu and entered Thethiyur village. Stay at Vishnupuram which is the Andapuram of Maha Vishnu. This is the place where Meenakshi Sundareswarar posture was shown to the devotees. Here Lord is facing east and Goddess is facing south side.
