Introduction

Thattanur Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Thattanur village, Udayarpalayam circle, Ariyalur district, Tamil Nadu. Thattanur is located on the Udayarpalayam – V. Kaikati road. It is impossible to find the temple site without proper help. The Shivalayam Ambigai Temple built on the Sembarangal rock has become ground level, leaving only the sanctum sanctorum of the Lord standing alone. Only the entrance remains intact as the circular wall disappears to ground level.

The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. The canopy inside the sanctum is carved with two pairs of fishes. However, the fish symbol may be the symbol of some villagers. This is the temple built by them. There are no inscriptions. All the idols were taken away by the kidnappers and only the temple remained.
