Introduction
Thalatheru Sivalokanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Thalatheru village, Kotucherry commune, Karaikal district. This Shiva temple is located two kilometres north of Karaikal bus stand. Here the primary deity is called as Shivalokanatha and Mother is called as Sivakami Ambal.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. To the east of the temple, there is a three-tiered Rajagopuram, there is a large hall with an east-facing sanctum sanctorum; In front of the sanctum sanctorum is the large mandapam, which has Shivagami with sanctum sanctorum towards the south. There is a Nandi Mandapam and a tall flagpole before the Lord. Karurai Kottam has Tenmugan, Lingotpavar, Brahman and Durga. There are temples of Vinayagar murugan and Mahalakshmi outside the temple.
There is a Tirtha well in the north-east and Navagraha, Bhairava, Shani and Surya in the long hall. There is also an office room nearby. In front of the tower is Thirunavukarasar Nandavanam, which has a big royal tree and some Nagas under it, besides that, there is a statue of a Naga holding an umbrella in the small shrine of Nagaraja Vinayagar.
