Introduction
Sudi is a panchayat town in the Gadag District of Karnataka, India. It is about 12 km from Gajendragad 30 kms from the important Chalukyan centre of Badami at Karnataka is a sleepy town of Sudi. Mallikarjuna temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Sudi, Is a later Chalukya (Kalyani Chalukyas) monument, 1054, Founded under princess Akkadevi Governor of Sudi. This is a unique and rarely known temple in India. Mallikarjuna Temple is also called as Akkeshwara Temple because it was built in dedication to Queen’s Respect. It’s also called as Achaleshwara temple. The front portion of this temple is much renovated. Front mandapa, which is open on three sides, is supported on ten pillars, eight pillars supporting the main roof and two supporting a projecting porch. It is a tri-kuta temple where three shrines share a common mandapa (hall). This common closed mandapa is supported on four pillars. For long time these structures were abandoned, they are manage under the Indian Archaeological Department.
