Introduction
MasilamaniEeswarar Temple in Alappuzha Built in the year 1305 by MaravarmaKulasekara Pandian. Built on the shore of the temple, the temple has been badly damaged by the raging sea. Currently under the care of the Archaeological Survey. In order to prevent further deterioration of the temple by the fury of the sea, the Department of Hindu Religious Affairs has done the work of pouring ebony stones along the temple and into the sea for a length of 50 meters. Work has started on setting up 10 shrines at the back of the temple. Ithalam is mentioned in the inscriptions as Kulasekaranpattinam, Sadakambadi.
Puranic Significance
Today the town serves as Tharangambadi. The temple is on the coast. The entire front of the temple was destroyed by the collision of the sea waves. Only Moolavar and Ganesha are in the temple. All the deities – Akilandeswari, Balasubramanian, Sundeswarar, Durga, Mahalakshmi, NavakKrikangashimee – are kept in one place next to the temple and worships are held.
