Introduction
Sri Arasakesari Sivan Temple was originally situated at Woodlands Road on a plot of land donated by Mr. V Kathirasoo. It is the only temple in Singapore, which has a pond. Sri Arasakesari sivan Temple is for Hindus from Sri Lanka.
It is believed that the Shiva Lingam in this temple was worshiped even before 1850. The Shiva lingam housed in this temple has been relocated three times within Singapore – from the Pothong Pasir area to the other end of the Topi Khat area; Then, to the area where McDonald’s House is now located; Thereafter, to a place on Orchard Road. The temple was there till 1983.
An ordinance was gazetted on 18 October 1915 placing the Sri Shiva Temple under the management of the Hindu Trust Board (established in 1907). In 1968, the Hindu Trust Board was set up to manage four temples, including the Sri Shiva Temple. The Temple is running various projects to help needy. They have Serve a meal project that was initiated by Amriteswari Society with the help of Sri Arasakesari Sivan Temple to provide food on every Sunday evening to the needy residents at Marsiling Blk. Every Thursday they have Shri stya Sai weekly Bhajans. Universal Peace foundation Run Spiritual Workshop there.
