Puranic Significance

Who is that graceful Shiva? Annadana Shiva was born in 1850 in the village of Thepperuma Nallur near Kumbakonam. His given name is Ramasamy and he became a grammar devotee at an early age.Later, he sold his property and donated to tens of thousands of people who received donations from others. Due to this he got the name Annathanasivan. During the Kumbakonam Mahamaka festival in 1909, Lord Shiva gave alms to tens of thousands of people The elder Kanchi greatly appreciated that noble work. Later, Annadana Sivan established a monastery at Ariyathidal Annalagraharam near Kumbakonam and continued his work. The Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple was earlier located in this town. Annathanasivan built a monastery near this temple and worshiped Meenakshi Sundareswarar daily and also performed Annathanam. Thus this is the place where Mother Meenakshi, who used to live in this temple, once appeared to him as Annapurna. After his death, Swami Sadanandar, one of Ramana’s disciples, took charge of the monastery and made alms. Later, the temple and the Annathanasivan monastery fell into disrepair. The idols of Swami and Goddess are buried in the soil. In the year 2007, during the construction of the Rudramakaliamman temple next to the monastery, it was hidden in the soil next to the Annathanam monastery. Taking out the Shiva lingam and the idol of the goddess, the founder of the Jyotimalai Worship Church, Thiruvadikudil Swamis came and performed pooja. The temple renovations began.
