Introduction
The Sri Kalika Parasakthi Temple, a revered spiritual site, is dedicated to the powerful goddess Sri Kalika Parasakthi. Known for bestowing ancestral blessings and divine grace, the temple is regarded as a source of prosperity and protection. Located approximately 5 kilometers from Aruppukottai in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, this temple holds deep significance for devotees.
Puranic Significance:
Goddess Sri Kalika Parasakthi is worshipped as a protector and bestower of life, guarding her devotees from danger. Devotees who practice penance in the ancient tradition, holding fire in their hands and feet, experience the divine manifestation of Sri Vethakali Amman, a powerful form of the goddess. The towering statue of Sri Vethakali Amman, standing 42 feet tall, symbolizes the fusion of education and wealth, making it one of the tallest statues in the world and a key feature of the temple.
Another unique aspect of the temple is the Sri Kalikaparasakthi Thavasithar Peedam in Shinthalakarai, which houses 27 astrological pillars. Devotees write down their village name, star, and grievances on sheets of paper as part of a ritual believed to alleviate their sufferings. Additionally, a statue of Bhoomipalar, installed by Seeniwasan, lies beneath the statue of Rajasayanaperumal, and a symbolic abhishekam (sacred bath) is performed for Bhoomipalar. The temple is believed to have a rich history spanning over 800 years.
Festivals:
The Sri Kalika Parasakthi Temple celebrates several important festivals, with Chitra Pournami being one of the most significant. During this festival, a grand abhishekam is performed for the goddess, and a procession is held by Swamis to honor and protect her. Another unique tradition is the bracelet-tying ritual performed for young girls seeking marital bliss, fertility, and the removal of obstacles in marriage. This special puja is conducted in the month of Purattasi, and the temple also hosts the Navaratri puja for Ambal, attracting many devotees seeking her divine blessings.
