Introduction
Senthangudy Kailasanathar Templeis dedicated to lord Shiva,located in the Senthangudy, Mayiladuthurai circle, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. Here the presiding deity is Lord Kailasanathar graces a small east-facing temple on the west bank of a large pond. It is blissful to see the image of the Lord Shiva in front of the temple swaying in the water of the pond. Here the Goddess Kalyani who is inside the Lord’s sanctum. Both Ganesha and Murugan are present at the gate of the Lord’s shrine. Opposite is the beautiful Nandi Devar.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. There is a well in the southeast. Karurai Kotam includes Tenmukhan and Durgai. In the southwest is Selvaganapati, the Ganesha. In the north-west there is a flourishing bow tree, under which there are four Nagas. There are Navagrahas in the North-East side. Kailasanathar would have been a Chola temple; the story of this Sendangudy is unknown.
