Introduction
Senthamangalam Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Senthamangalam village, Mannargudi Circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamilnadu. Senthamangalam is located on the south bank of Kunniyur Thandigorai River. This town is a town with a lot of historical pride. There are both a Shiva and a Perumal temple here. Here the Presiding deity is called as Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Parvati.
Puranic Significance
This Shiva temple has been rebuilt after much destruction and has been restored with a sacrifice. The period of these two temples is from late 11th century to early 12th century. The temple deity – Kailasanathar – Parvati facing east has recently been flooded. There is also a big pond in front of the temple. The temple is set up with a large circular wall and a black stone covered entrance hall in the middle. Ambigai is facing south side of the temple.
Outside the main hall is Nandi Mandapam. Among the Lord’s chariots are the beautiful Dakshnamurti and the ancient Sanagathiya under him. At the back are the lingams and at the north are Brahma and Durga. Vinayagar and Vallitheiva are the presiding deities in Murugan sanctum. Murugan is in a small shrine near Lakshmi with lotuses. Directly behind the sanctum sanctorum is a lofty Naga under a large vamp. In the north-east there is a shrine of Periya bhairava towards the west. There are two linga murthys in a small hall nearby. There is also a well in the north-east of the temple.
