Introduction

Sembiyanclari Netrapadeeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Sembiyanclary, Budalur circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. This village is located from Kallanai dam, near to the banks of the Venna River. At one time some of the administrative estates of the Chola government were also located here from this town. This temple is built by Sempiyanmadevi. Here the Presiding deity is called as Netrapadeeswarar and Mother is called as Kamakshi.

Puranic Significance

This temple is built by Sempiyanmadevi. The temple is said to be more than 1300 years old. This East facing Shiva temple, surrounded by Nandavanam entrance gate, Nandi is facing the Lord. Here the Lord Netrapadeeswarar and Mother kamatshiyamman refers to the eyelash-like Lord who protects his devotees like an eyeball. God has a sanctum facing east and Goddess is facing east. There is a long hall in front of the Lord. Vinayaka is on one side of the sanctum sanctorum and Subramanya is on the other side. Narthana vinayagar, Dakshanamurthy, Annamalaiyar, Brahma and Durga are in Karurai Koshta. Chandi Kesha is present in the temple. A palm tree flourishes, and under the tree is an idol of a Naga.

Beliefs

Lord Netra Pureeswarar heals the problems of the devotees who come with problems related to eyesight and eye diseases. On the third day of every month following the new moon, special pujas are offered to Lord Netrapadeeswarar and special pujas are performed. After the puja, dasavani oil spread on the elder is offered as prasad to the devotees. Devotees apply it on scalp and eyelids. It cools the eyes and improves vision. Devotees say that those who suffer from eye diseases regularly participate in the third moon prayer and get rid of eye related problems.
