Introduction
Sathanur Kalahastheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Sathanur village, Koothanallur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Kalahastheeswarar and Mother is called as Gnanambigai. Sathanur village is located on the south bank of Vennar River.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. There are two Shiva temples in Sathanur village. On the road leading south from the bridge is a Shiva temple on the banks of a large pond. The other temple is situated on the northern bank of a huge pond. This temple is facing east side of the village. Here the Lord is facing west side. The entrance hall is also on the east. On the left side of the entrance is Kannimoola Ganapati. The Lord has a large lingamurthy attached to the south-facing ambigai sanctum. The Lord Kalahastheeswarar Lord Dakshanamurthy is the only one who has Karurai. There is a door in front of the Lord and outside it Nandi is in a small hall. Outside the temple is Nandimandapam on the west side and the Valli theivanai sametha muruga on the north-west side. There is a Tirtha well in the north-east side, and Bhairava and Sun near to the west side. Puja is performed in the morning and evening but only on special days people come.
