Introduction
Saluvampet Anantheeswarar – Agatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Saluvampet village, Valangaiman taluk, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Saluvampet is located in front of Avoor ten km southwest of Kumbakonam. There is a Shiva temple towards the east. It may be a temple built during the Nayak period. The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. To the east of the Lord is the sanctum sanctorum and in front of it there is a conical Arthamandapam and Mahamandapam. On one side of the sanctum sanctorum gate is Vinayaka and on the other side is Saturn. Nandi is in the Mahamandapam right in front of the Lord. In the Arthamandap, the ambikai joins the entrance to the sanctum sanctorum where there is a small Lord Ganesha at the entrance to the sanctum sanctorum. There is also a small Nandi in front of the Lord and also a small Nandi in front of the goddess. Here the Presiding deity is called as Anandeeswarar – Agatheeswarar, Goddess – Akilandeswari. The entire temple is unmaintained and the idols are often left unattended.
