Puranic Significance
The Krishnarjuni pond is traditionally believed to be the place where the Pandavas resided during their period of Vanavasa (exile in the forest) in the Indian epic, the Mahabharata. On the banks of this pond stands a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, known as Bhuvaneshwar Mahadev. Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of a Linga (an abstract representation of the divine). The temple and the Shiva Linga are constructed based on geometric principles, reflecting the precision and craftsmanship of its builders. Additionally, the temple features a sculpture of the Sun god Bhaskara, earning it the name Suryeshwar Temple. At the entrance of the sanctum, there is an inscription, which may provide historical or religious information about the temple. This temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old, and its association with the Pandavas’ period of exile adds to its cultural and historical significance.
