Puranic Significance
The village of Ramenahalli has an interesting legend associated with it. According to the legend, Lord Rama and Lakshmana visited this village on their way to Sri Lanka during their epic journey. As a result, the village came to be known as Ramenahalli, signifying its connection to Lord Rama. Around 500 years ago, the king of Mrudagiri had a temple built in this village. To oversee the administration of the temple, he entrusted the Katti family with this responsibility. As a token of appreciation and support, the king also granted the Katti family some land in the vicinity of the village.
For centuries, the Katti family has faithfully served and worshipped Lord Venkateshwara in this temple. Lord Venkateshwara is the presiding deity of the temple. It’s worth noting that on the auspicious day of Ugadi, the rays of the sun align in such a way that they directly fall on Lord Venkateshwara’s crown, adding to the significance of the temple. Within the temple premises, you can find a Garuda pillar, which is often associated with Lord Vishnu and his mount, Garuda. Additionally, there is a temple pond for various ritualistic purposes. The temple’s sacred tree, known as the Sthala Vriksham, is a Banyan tree. This temple is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of the rich cultural and religious heritage of the region, maintained and cherished by the Katti family for generations.
