Introduction

           

The Vaidyanatha Swamy Temple in Radhanallur Village, Mayiladuthurai Taluk, Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the Pancha Vaidyanatha Kshetrams, a group of five temples dedicated to Lord Vaidyanatha Swamy around Vaitheeswaran Koil.

  1. Presiding Deity: The main deity of the temple is Vaidyanatha Swamy, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. The Mother deity is known as Thaiyal Nayagi.
  2. Location: The temple is situated on the banks of the Manniyaru River and is located on the Pandanallur to Manalmedu route.
  3. Historical Significance: The temple is believed to be more than 1500 years old, carrying a rich historical and spiritual legacy.
  4. Temple Orientation: The temple faces west, and it features an entrance arch with a stucco image of Rishabaroodar, a form of Lord Shiva’s bull vehicle, flanked by Nandi idols.
  5. Temple Structure: The temple complex consists of the Sanctum Sanctorum, Artha Mandapam, and Maha Mandapam.
  6. Presiding Deity: Lord Vaidyanatha Swamy is represented as a Lingam and is facing west within the sanctum.
  7. Goddess Thaiyal Nayagi: Goddess Thaiyal Nayagi, the consort of Lord Vaidyanatha Swamy, has her shrine located to the left side of the sanctum in the Maha Mandapam.
  8. Lord Vinayaga: An idol of Lord Vinayaga can be found at the entrance of the Artha Mandapam.
  9. Other Deities: The temple complex also houses shrines and idols of Muthukumaraswami, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, along with his consorts Valli and Deivanai, Bhairavar, Suryan (the Sun God), Saneeswarar (Saturn), and Maha Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity.

This temple, like the other Pancha Vaidyanatha Kshetrams, holds spiritual significance and is visited by devotees seeking blessings, particularly for good health and well-being. The temple’s serene location along the banks of the Manniyaru River adds to its tranquility and charm, making it a place of worship and devotion.
