The Narasimha Swamy Temple in Pon Vilaintha Kalathur, located 10 kilometers from Chengalpet in the Kanchipuram District of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, specifically to Lord Narasimha. This temple has historical significance and is associated with various legends.

Presiding Deity: The primary deity of the temple is Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The Utsavar Deity of Thiru Kadal Mallai Divya Desam was installed here approximately 1000 years ago.
Connection with Thiru Kadal Mallai: Several idols from the Thiru Kadal Mallai Divya Desam were at risk of being washed away by floods. To protect the Narasimha idol, it is believed that the Utsava deity was taken to a safer location. Garuda was entrusted with the task of identifying the suitable place for installing the Lakshmi Narasimha Utsava deity. About a thousand years ago, Garuda circled the vimanam (tower) of this temple three times, indicating that this was the right place. Subsequently, the Utsava deity was installed in Pon Vilaintha Kalathur, giving the temple its significance and historical value.
Name Origin – Pon Vilaintha Kalathur: The name “Pon Vilaintha Kalathur” translates to “the village where gold yielded from cultivation.” According to legend, Vedanta Desikar, a great poet and philosopher, couldn’t find alms to feed Lord Hayagriva at night in this village. The villagers reported that a white horse had destroyed their paddy fields during the night. When Vedanta Desikar investigated, he discovered that the places the horse had run through had turned into gold. Hence, the village earned its name due to the extraordinary transformation of the fields.
Parikara Sthalam: The temple is believed to be a Parikara Sthalam, a place where remedies are provided. It is especially known for offering solutions to unmarried individuals and for healing health-related issues.
Utsavams: The temple hosts various Utsavams (festivals) throughout the year in honor of Lakshmi Narasimha. Some of these festivals include the Sudarshana Homam on January 26, the Narasimha Utsavam, and the Davana Utsavam, which occurs on the second Sunday of March each year.
Deities: In addition to Lord Narasimha, the temple complex houses other deities, including Vaikunta Vaasa Perumal (Moolavar), Ahobila Valli Thayar (Goddess), and Kothanda Ramaswamy.
