Introduction
It is the first of the two Siva Devalayas or temples, The Shiva Temple No 1 is situated in the south of the Quadrangle. Located in the Polonnaruwa oldest Hindu shrine found in the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka. It was built by King Raja Raja I (985 – 1014 A.D.). Archaeological ruins. Devalaya (No 1) is a small structure, which is in ruins with an effort having been made at restoration. There are indications that the original temple must have been dedicated to the Hindu deity Siva, however, currently, it is not in use as a temple.
