Introduction
Perumbugalur Agatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Perumbugalur village, Nannilam circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. The small towns situated in this Perumbugalur municipality. There are two Shiva temples in this town. The first temple is on the banks of the Great Pond. When Lord Agatheeswarar Lord Agathiyaperuman came to the South, he performed linga worship at many places. Perumbugalur is one of the places where such linga was worshipped.
Since the temple, which is more than eight hundred years old, is completely dilapidated, all the murti’s are kept in a roofed shed and worship is done. Here the Lord is called as Agatheeswarar and Mother is called as Sivakama sundari. Towards the east there are sanctuaries dedicated to the Lord and towards the south, shrines dedicated to Vinayagar Murugan.
