• Location: The Murugan Temple is dedicated to God Murugan and is situated in Perumber Kandikai Village, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu.
• Proximity: Located about half a kilometer from the highway, the temple is set on a hillock surrounded by a beautiful environment.
• Surrounding Features: The base of the hill features huge banyan trees, a Village God temple, and a temple tank.

Puranic Significance

• Historical Importance: The temple is believed to be around 1000 years old and is said to be on par with the six abodes of Lord Muruga (Arupadai Veedu): Thiruchendur, Palani, Thiruthani, Swamimalai, Pazhamudircholai, and Thiruparankundram.
• Ancient Legacy: It is believed that there were nearly 33 temples in this village in ancient times, but most have since fallen into disrepair.
• Sage Agasthiyar’s Vision: According to tradition, Lord Muruga granted south-facing darshan (Therku Muga Dharisanam) to Sage Agasthiyar at this sacred site.
• Temple Structure: The temple features a small shrine with an additional Vinayagar shrine. The ascent to the hilltop temple involves approximately 200 steps.
• Deity Representation: Lord Muruga is depicted with six faces and twelve hands, accompanied by his consorts Valli and Deivanai. In front of him is the Chathru Samhara Yanthram, believed to be ancient.
• Ritual Practices: Yanthra pooja and Chathru Samhara homams are performed at the temple.

• Steps to Temple: The temple is accessible by approximately 200 steps leading to the hillock.
• Vinayagar Temple: Near the temple tank at the base, there is a Vinayagar temple known as Parai Vinayagar, which is believed to have naturally appeared at the site.
• Navagraha Sannathi: While climbing the steps, devotees encounter a Sannathi dedicated to the Navagraha devas.
• Temple Tank: The temple tank, called Sanjeevi Theertham, is said to have healing properties for various ailments.
• Main Deity: The main deity is referred to as Valli Devasena Sametha Sivasubramaniar. The hill is also known as Sanjeevi Malai.

Festivals

• Brahmotsavam: This festival is celebrated on Vaikasi Visagam day.
• Chithra Pournami Procession: On this day, Lord Muruga is taken in a procession to Rettai Malai.
• Special Celebration: The temple also observes a unique celebration where Aatcheeswarar from Achirappakkam visits Rettai Malai on this day, allowing Sivasubramaniar to bestow darshan upon all devotees, making it a significant occasion.
