Introduction
Pattakudy Agatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Pattakudy village, Thirunallaru circle, Karaikal district, Tamil Nadu. This is also one of the places where Agathiya Munivar was worshipped the Lord. Here the Primary deity is called as Agatheeswarar and Mother is called as Akilandeswari. Next to it, Nandi Devar is facing the Lord.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 800 years old. The Lord’s sanctuary is made of brick, and there is an ancient Vinayagar statue at the gate of the Lord’s shrine, and the Lord’s sanctuary is facing south. A sixteen-foot black stone hall connects the two sanctuaries and adorns them. The Lord is a huge idol.
One of the most beautiful Dakshan statues in Karurai Koshta is a woman standing with a rabbit at her feet and bowing down with a hen. The story is not explained. Vinayagar sanctum in the south-west is made of stone and above it the vimanam is made of brick.
In Murugan’s sanctum there is a front hall. Murugan Valli Deiva is a large-scale idol. The Mahalakshmi shrine in the northwest is built of stone. A big bow tree is growing. In the north-east is the Navagraga Mandapam and in the Long Mandapam, the idols of Bhairava Sambandar Sundarar Manikavasakar are lined up in a row, and nearby are the idols of Agathiyar Anjaneyar and Shaniswarar..
