Puranic Significance
This ancient temple is completely built of black stone. Lord Muruga destroyed Soorapadman and his followers in Thiruchendur to protect the gods. Due to the slaying of the Asuras, Veerahati was afflicted. Lord Muruga, who first came to Manjawadi near Devur, after consecrating Manjal Vinayaka, worshiped the Siva sthalams located in Pancha kadambanur, Agarakadambanur, Ilangakadambanur, Perungadambanur, Kadambara living areas, and then visited the Suyambulinga Murthy in this Kadambavan on the south side of Sikal. He returned to the world after being blessed by the ever-worshiping Kadam Parishi. So it is said that Murugan is worshiped here as sunlight on every Panguni Uttra day. Also this place is very special where thirty three crore gods are worshipped.

If you take a dip in the Pancha theertha kulam of this temple and worship Kadambavana Natha on the third day of the festival, incurable diseases will be cured. It is the belief of the devotees that the ban on marriage will be removed.
